HAMPTON, KILBY JOIN TIGER FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—The Hampden-Sydney College football coaching staff has added two new members to the defensive unit as Brandon Hampton and Joe Kilby have accepted positions with the program. Hampton returns to Hampden-Sydney from East Texas Baptist University and will serve as inside linebackers coach , while Kilby joins the program from Austin College and will serve as the outside linebackers coach.

Hampton will be in his second stint and third season overall with the Tiger football program. Hampton coached at Hampden-Sydney as a defensive assistant for two years, 2002-2003, before moving to East Texas Baptist University for one season in 2004. In 2005, he will once-again serve as a linebackers coach and will oversee the Tiger weight room and strength and conditioning program.

At East Texas Baptist, Hampton coached the linebacking corps and was a special teams assistant. Hampton first joined the Tigers in 2002 after serving as the defensive coordinator for Eldorado High School in Illinois for one season. Prior to his stint at Eldorado, he coached the defensive line at his alma mater, Greenville College, from 2000 through 2001.

A native of Eldorado, Illinois, Hampton graduated from Greenville College in 2000 with a B.S. in special education. He also played football for Greenville from 1996 to 2000 and was a two-year starter and two-year team captain. Hampton earned all-conference honors at defensive tackle during his senior year.

Hampton and his wife, Ginger, live in Hampden-Sydney and are expecting their first child, Hope, in August.

Kilby meanwhile, brings nearly a decade of coaching experience to the Tiger staff after coaching stints at Austin College (TX), Kansas Wesleyan, Fort Hayes State and Princeton High School (TX). Kilby served as offensive coordinator at Austin College for five seasons (1999-2003) after working as quarterbacks and receivers coach at Kansas Wesleyan from 1997 through 1998. Prior to joining the Kansas Wesleyan staff, Kilby was a receivers coach at Fort Hayes State University (1995-1996), and a coach at Princeton High School (1994-1995).

A native of Sarnia, Canada, Kilby earned his bachelors degree in science and kinesiology from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. He earned his masters of science and physical education from Ft. Hayes State.

Kilby currently resides in Farmville, VA, and is a professor at Longwood University.
