NORTHWESTERN – MCNEESE STATE FOOTBALL GAME CANCELLED

With the threat of heavy wind and rains from Hurricane Rita, officials from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and McNeese State University agreed to cancel Saturday’s football game in Lake Charles, La.

“The safety of the players from both schools is paramount,” said Dr. Paul Beran, university president. “I appreciate the professionalism of McNeese State’s administration in handling this situation. Hopefully, there will be an opportunity to play McNeese in future seasons.”

The Rangers will get back on schedule Saturday, October 1, when Northwestern will meet up with New Mexico Highlands University at Ranger Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Statement from SHSU Director of Athletics Bobby Williams

With Sam Houston State's Fox Sports TV/Parents' Weekend football game with Missouri State scheduled for Saturday night, we are keeping a close eye on the progress of Hurricane Rita.
Sam Houston administration and athletic officials are in touch with their counterparts at Missouri State, Southland Conference and Gateway Conference staff, and Fox Sports as well.
A number of options are available to us. We can play the game as scheduled, cancel, or move to a neutral site. We will make an announcement as to our decision by Thursday at 12 noon.
