Yetten To Receive Honor From National Football Foundation
Yetten, a 2000 inductee into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame, will be entering his 28th season as the Falcons’ head coach in the fall. After three years as an assistant, he was named head coach of the Bentley club program in 1979 and has since built one of the premier Division II programs in the region. His career record of 207-67-2 includes 136-46-1 in 18 varsity seasons and 44-10 over the last five years.
Yetten’s teams have won several conference championships, including the Northeast-10 titles in both 2003 and 2004, and hosted NCAA Division II playoff games in both those seasons. His tenure has included seven seasons with at least 10 wins, including two at the club level and five since 1995. During the mid-nineties, Yetten led Bentley to a 30-game winning streak, longest by a New England football team during the 1900’s.
Yetten is the recipient of numerous Coach of the Year awards, including from the Northeast-10 in 2001, 2003 and 2004. He was also the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Coach of the Year four times, was the ECAC Intercollegiate Football Conference Division II Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994, and has also received Coach of the Year accolades from the New England Football Writers and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.
The winningest college football coach in New England Division II history, Yetten was a three-sport athlete at Boston University before embarking on his coaching career and a long teaching career at Waltham High. In 1998, the Westford resident was honored by his alma mater with the Harry Cleverly Award, which is presented to a BU grad who has distinguished himself in the coaching profession.
